Helping build a future of regenerative travel.

Why we created Swapsy and how it can positively transform tourism.

The journey began on a secluded, white sand beach along Australia's East Coast. We were enjoying some much needed downtime, dreaming up ways we could return more often to magical places like this. Whilst somehow ensuring our kids and grandkids could do the same for years to come.

Time for a change

With the cost of accommodation at an all time high and tourism having an increasingly negative impact on local communities and the environment, it was time for a change. As the sun started to drop behind the horizon, we imagined more sustainable ways to travel...

Which led us to this idea - use home swapping to dramatically reduce the cost of travel, find people to swap with in epic destinations whilst somehow giving back to their community and environment.

More travel, less impact

Home swapping with other people would not only take away the need to pay for travel accommodation, it would give us access to far more travel destinations. Where hotels can't go.

It would also be better for the environment compared to hotels - less energy consumed, less waste produced, less money given to big corporations.

There would be less "tourist overload" on smaller communities as home swapping with locals would move them to our community whilst we visit theirs.

Best of all, some of the money we'd save from home swapping could be redirected into the communities we visit, supporting local business as well as environmental initiatives.

With the cost of accommodation at an all time high and tourism having an increasingly negative impact on local communities and the environment, it was time for a change.

We're on a mission to make these musings a reality for the Swapsy community, with an ambition to introduce more amazing destinations from across the world.

We truly hope that this journey continues and we can help shape a future where travel regenerates people, the communities they live in and the planet we all share :)

How home swapping can also help.

Home swapping is a better way to travel. Not only does it take away the need to pay for travel accommodation, it opens the door to more meaningful, community driven travel experiences. In beautiful pockets of the world that hotels will never reach.

It is better for the environment compared to hotels - less energy consumed, less waste produced, less money given to big corporations.

There is also less "tourist overload" on smaller communities, as home swapping with locals simply moves them to your area while you visit theirs.

Best of all, some of the money you save from home swapping can be redirected into the communities you visit, supporting local business as well as environmental initiatives.
